About Postcard Roundup

This blog had been in the back of my mind for about two years, and I finally made it a reality in October of 2010. Postcard Roundup is intended to appeal not just to postcard collectors, but also to anyone with an interest in 20th Century history and artifacts. The core of Postcard Roundup is a large and ever-growing archive of high-resolution scans, vintage postcards presented with descriptions of both their subject-matter and deltiological data. (believe it or not, deltiology is a fancy term for postcard collecting) In the simplest of terms, this might be described as an on-line art gallery of vintage postcards.
Every effort is made to process each scan in such a way as to reproduce the original colors accurately. In cases where a postcard displays significant damage I will I use Photoshop to repair the flaw, and I usually notate such modifications. Unlike many collectors, I don’t much care whether or not a card is in pristine, unmailed condition. In fact I prefer postally used cards, particularly those with correspondence on the back, as they provide a uniquely personal glimpse into the past. There’s much to learn from postcards, as they, perhaps more so than any other form of ephemera, captured the many facets of the 20th Century.
If you have questions or comments you are more than welcome to contact me at mark@postcardroundup.com, and I hope you’ll enjoy browsing the archive.
