Post-Roger’s Crack-Up

Post-Rogers Plane Crash PostcardI found several good postcards at an antique mall this past weekend, including this one. I snapped it up when I saw it was a RPPC of a plane crash, but I didn’t pick up on the significance of it until later. This photo shows the wreckage of the plane that crashed on August 15, 1935 near Point Barrow, Alaska, killing famed aviator Wiley Post and humorist Will Rogers. Having landed in a lagoon off Point Barrow to confirm their location, the top-heavy hybrid plane stalled during take-off and nose-dived into the water, killing both occupants instantly.
