Sorry about going awol again, but sometimes I get a web design job that monopolizes all my time. (in this case it was two at once) Anyway, I’m back! Here’s three postcards that provide interior views of “Clifton’s Pacific Seas,” a restaurant at 618 S. Olive St. in Los Angeles. This spectacular haven for polynesian excess began in 1939 when Clifford Clinton transformed a mundane cafeteria into the tropical showcase we see here. Featuring grass huts, waterfalls, and jungle murals, the restaurant’s success prompted the opening of other, suburban, locations, and the original Clifton’s Pacific Seas was closed in 1960.
