Massanutten Caverns

Massanutten Caverns PostcardThis linen card shows an underground “lake” in Massanutten Caverns near Keezletown and Harrisonburg, Virginia. From what I can gather, the Massanutten Caverns were discovered in 1892 and became popular with visitors in the early 20th century. The caverns were closed to public access in 1989.

  1. I was a visitor twice to the caverns, then I got old and disabled. It was an awesome place and the guide, an old gentleman was fantastic. I think he was an owner.

That’s great that you have those memories. When I was young my parents got on a cavern kick, and every trip to visit cross-country relatives included a cavern visit. (Mammoth Cave in Kentucky was my favorite) My wife and I considered resurrecting the cavern visit tradition, but we’re far enough past our time to make that unfeasible. Bummer!
